Current Vacancies:

Production Manager

The position will report to the Production Director, and will involve the effective day to day operation of our busy manufacturing and assembly facility. In addition to the main duties detailed below, the successful candidate will be expected to help implement the introduction of a new ERP system within the facility.

The main duties will include;

  • Managing a multi-disciplined team of supervisors, mechanical and electrical engineers, machine operators and support staff totalling approximately 60 people.
  • Co-ordinating production activities.
  • Planning work and labour requirements with the support of the Assistant Production Manager.
  • Ensuring production and despatch targets are met.
  • Maintaining control of production costs.
  • Interfacing with colleagues at all levels.
  • Working closely with the Sales team, Design Office, Projects & Purchasing Departments.
  • Maintaining a safe factory working environment.
  • Maintaining quality standards and procedures in association with QA
  • Introducing new equipment, operational systems and procedures targeted at improving efficiency and reducing waste.
  • Working with HR to recruit and manage the manufacturing team.

EDUCATION

Possessing a formal engineering qualification, preferably at Degree level or equivalent, would be beneficial but not essential.

EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will have a background in engineering, preferably gained within a bespoke or low volume batch environment. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate extensive experience of managing multi-discipline manufacturing within an engineering facility,

such as laser cutting, CNC folding, CNC machining and automatic Tig & Mig welding as well as electrical panel build, machine wiring, software and final machine/system assembly. This will involve working to precise dimensional and quality standards, where delivery deadlines are met without fail. Moreover, you will also need to demonstrate a proven background of implementing positive change within your current position or previous roles.

As well as providing a practical approach to managing the day to day activities of the facility, the successful individual must be capable of demonstrating the maturity and experience needed to multi-task within a pressurised environment, communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and be confident to communicate with external customers at any level.

Technical Design Engineer

  • To work within our Design Team on the comprehensive range of equipment that we manufacture.
  • Must be experienced in the use of Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D Software such as Solidworks.
  • An engineering background.

The following would be advantageous, but not essential:

  • Experience of design work carried out on food machinery and systems
  • A working knowledge of the following, both at user design and calculation levels:

- steam systems and energy calculations

- fluid systems, pumps and pipe work

- pneumatics

- stress calculations

- sizing of motor/gearboxes for applications

- sheet metal development

- tolerance of machined parts

  • Perform necessary calculations, control and advise on technical legislation that DCN equipment should conform to such as PD5500, ASME, Puwer, Machinery Directive, CE/CA marking etc.
  • Specify and source technical bought out items to ensure they conform to DCN and customer requirements.
  • Advise both colleagues and customers regarding technical queries.
  • Provide technical and service requirements for Sales drawings and marketing/commercial documents.
  • Control of formulation and updating of Bills of Materials.
  • Administer serial number database.
  • Control of technical manual formulation including updating.
  • Formulation of spare parts lists.
  • Administer technical library (online and hard copy).
  • Checking customer URS/Specifications for technical requirements/specifications prior to quotation or contract signature.
  • Administer parts database (Operations).

Hours:     

8:30 am to 5:00 pm (Mon – Fri).  Overtime is sometimes available.

Design Engineer

  • To work within our design team on the comprehensive range of equipment that we manufacture.
  • Must be experienced in the use of Autodesk Inventor and be proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
  • An engineering background.
  • Be able to work on their own or as part of a team and be able to meet deadlines.
  • Be able to deal directly with suppliers to obtain prices and delivery times.

The following would be advantageous, but not essential:

  • Previous shop floor “hands on” experience; Machining, Welding Fabrication   “Time served Apprentice” etc.
  • Experience of design work carried out on food machinery and systems.
  • A working knowledge of the following, both at user design and calculation levels:

Skilled Electrician Engineer

Skilled Electrical Engineer is required by long-established and respected engineering manufacturing Company.

This interesting and varied “hands-on” role is working in building food processing machinery in Stainless steel. Both electrical and a small amount of mechanical skills and experiences is required.

The role is working in a department of 6 electrical engineers.

You will have significant experience in panel wiring through to completely wiring machinery to connection of main supply.

You may be required to go on-site to complete the electrical installation of the equipment.

You will have significant experience in electric fault finding and helping in house electrical maintenance within the company.

Electrical NVQ3 & VRQ / City & Guilds Qualifications / Apprentice in Engineering are required.

39 hour week per required.

Production Welder / Fabricator

We are currently looking to recruit a multi-skilled Production Stainless Steel Welder.

The successful applicant will have a varied role, welding different types of fabrication to a high standard for equipment used within the Food Processing industry. The job is based at our premises in Great Gransden, with occasional site-work.

Skills required:

  • TIG and MIG welding practices plus positional
  • The ability to read engineering drawings and understand tolerances.

Advantageous:

  • Orbital welding
  • City & Guilds Qualifications in Welding/Apprentice in Engineering

Mechanical Assembler/Fitter

This interesting role is to work on various types of assembly and fitting to a high standard for equipment used in the Food Processing Industry.

Previous experience is essential:

  • Building air pneumatics

  • Read and have good understanding of engineering drawings

Trainee Welder

Due to a large increase in workload we are currently looking for Trainee Welders. Previous experience is not essential, but the successful candidate should have a keen interest in learning and willingness to work hard and go the extra mile.

You will be given training in all aspects of MIG/TIG welding and fabricating to a very high standard, manufacturing components used to produce stainless steel food processing equipment.

Skilled Sheet Metal Worker

Working hours are 39 hours per week.

Monday - 7.30 am - 1.00 pm / 1.30 pm - 4.00 pm

Tuesday - 7.30 am - 1.00 pm / 1.30 pm - 4.30 pm

Wednesday/Thursday - 7.30 am - 1.00 pm / 1.30 pm - 5.00 pm

Friday - 7.30 am - 12 noon

Duties:

  • Experience in programming / set / operating Amada CNC break-press or any other CNC break-presses.
  • Experience in CNC punch press would be an advantage.
  • Experience in manual break-press machinery,
  • Experience in using an Amada guillotine would be an advantage.
  • Candidates need to be able to read and have good understanding of engineering drawings
  • Experience in measuring / marking out is required.
  • Be proficient with the use of various hand tools and mechanical equipment for sheet-metal.
  • It would be beneficial, but not essential to have experience in programming / set / operating a Mitsubishi laser or any other of make sheet-metal laser machines.

Occasional overtime may be available paid at 1½ standard rate.

Holiday 4 weeks plus bank holidays per year.

There is Sickness scheme available at the management discretion after 4 years continuous service.

Workplace pension offered after 3 months to the government legislation.

Christmas shut period down to be taken from holiday allowance plus paid bank holidays.

Overalls supplied.

Duties will include accurate measuring and cutting of materials (mainly stainless steel) to correct sizes.

Candidate must be able to read engineering drawings and have worked in a similar mechanical assembly environment.

Working hours are 39 hours per week.

Monday - 7.30 am - 1.00 pm / 1.30 pm - 4.00 pm

Tuesday - 7.30 am - 1.00 pm / 1.30 pm - 4.30 pm

Wednesday/Thursday - 7.30 am - 1.00 pm / 1.30 pm - 5.00 pm

Friday - 7.30 am - 12 noon

CNC Lathe Machinist

CNC Lathe machinist Engineer is required by long established and respected engineering manufacturing Company.

This interesting and varied “hands on” role is building various food processing equipment.

Basic Function

You must able to Program / set and operate CNC lathes lathe’s using Fanuc or Haas.

Materials used are mainly Stainless Steel materials with some small amounts of Nylon and PTFE.

It is expected you know how to read engineering drawings and use measuring equipment, understand tolerances and do your own self checking.

You must be able to work within a team running and activities incurred on the shop floor / sometimes and in all aspects including Health & Safety Production, Inspection and Discipline.

  • To assist in the day to day running of the factory production areas and jobs allotted to your control in accordance with the schedules and completion dates assigned. Modern manufacturing methods.
  • The keeping of good order, motivation and discipline while working the factory / site.
  • To uphold the correct use and maintenance of equipment used on the shop floor. .
  • To establish and uphold a professional and confident rapport when carrying out your daily duties and conferring with shop floor personnel.
  • To upholding Health & Safety – Risk assessments / Method statements.
  • To uphold the company rules and ruling communicated via management.
  • To offer Customer support while working on site, looking at all scenarios in reducing machinery down time.

General Objectives and Responsibilities

  • To carry out a policy of valve engineering when working in the factory.
  • To maintain an environment where standards on hygiene, discipline, attendance and good time keeping are upheld.
  • To create and implement productivity gains, be it equipment or policies using your knowledge and experience to benefit the company.

City & Guilds Qualifications / Apprentice in Engineering would be an advantage.

You would be contracted to work 39 hour Monday – Friday with a 10 minute tea break 10.00am and ½ hour lunch-break 1.00pm - 1.30pm.

It is expected you will do a reasonable amount of overtime to cover your basic functional duties.

Your rate is to be negotiated depending on experience.

Sick scheme offered after 4 years employment.

Apprenticeships

Below is the areas in engineering in which we offer:

Stores – All aspect of working in the stores, dealing with people and delivers and parts.

Mechanical – Welding, Fabrication, Sheet-Metal, Metal Finishing, Machine Shop, Electrical basic.

Machining on Lathe and Mills / Machining Centres.

Electrical only - Panel wiring, Field wiring, Mains wiring.

Machine Shop only - Manual Machining on Lathes and Mills, Drills & progressing on to CNC

Drawing Office – Auto-Cad and Design.

The courses we cover are: engineering foundation and NVQ level 1 & 2 with continuing on to the advanced NVQ level 3 built on the job experience and 1day per week studying the technical certificate VRQ level 3.

If the person is an older student with higher qualifications then NVQ level 1 & 2 can be skipped, so they would start straight away on a NVQ level 3 or B-TEC but at some point need to incorporate the PO units.

If a student finds college relatively easy and fly’s through the NVQ level 3 then we also offer to share support, which gives the opportunity to advance on HNC & HND diplomas.

Since 2020 the government have changed the course from Frameworks to Standards. Frameworks were more flexible and incorporated different units a variety of engineering for the AOL qualification.

Standards are much less flexible so once you decide which area to concentrate on as your engineering career, then that will come the main focus of study. For example if you decide electrical then it only be electrical with no other engineer covered within NVQ.
